How to Create Sub Accounts

What are sub accounts?

Sub accounts are designed to make it easier for users to manage their assets. Sub accounts are created under a main account. A main account can have multiple sub accounts for investments and asset management.

Maximum number of sub accounts：

VIP1-VIP4, 2 sub accounts.
VIP5-VIP9, 20 sub accounts.
VIP10-VIP11, 100 sub accounts.
VIP12-VIP14, 200 sub accounts.
VIP15-VIP16, 300sub accounts.

The sub account feature is only open to users at and above VIP1.

How to create a sub account

Step 1: Log in to your account, move the cursor on the profile icon on top left and go to "sub account management".

Step 2: Click on the red "+Create sub account" button.

Step 3: Set your sub account username (must be a combination of letters or of letters and numbers). Remarks are optional. If you dont want the login password, email address, Google authentication and fund password to be the same as your main account, you may set them separately.

Step 4: After clicking on "ConfirmCreate", you need to complete 2FA authentication. You can either use Google or your phone number to verify. Just enter the corresponding verification code and click on "Confirm" to finish setting up the sub account.

Step 5: Once a sub account is set up, you can go to "sub account management" to transfer funds to the sub account.

Click on the "transfer" button following the sub account.
Switch to set the direction of the transfer.
Select the currency to be transferred.
Input the amount of the transfer.
Click on "Confirm".

Settings of the sub account:

1. Click on "API Key Manage" to create API Key for the sub account.

2. Click on "Manage"-"Withdrawal Addresses Whitelist" to add withdrawal addresses to the sub account.

3. You can "Freeze" any sub accounts on your main account to ban them from trading (effective in 3 minutes). Frozen sub account cannot log in on the website or trade using API.

When you "Defreeze" a sub account, the account will be activated and restored to all normal functions and services.

Limitations to sub accounts

In order to make sure that the assets in the main account are safe, sub accounts can therefore transfer funds to and receive funds from the main account only. The following are banned for sub accounts: C2C fiat currency trading, fiat currency loan, withdrawal from digital asset to wallet, using gatecode, points transfer, red pockets (in chat rooms and live streaming). Sub accounts cannot log in on Gate.io mobile app.

Inheritance

1. Handling fee discount
Sub account inherits the main accounts VIP tier and therefore enjoys the same amount of handling fee discount.

2. Upgrade
VIP tier of the sub account follows the main account. The transaction volume of the sub account adds to the transaction volume of the main account.

About Spot Trading

Definition of spot trading

Spot trading refers to crypto-to-crypto trading, using one cryptocurrency to buy another. The trading rule is to complete the matchmaking according to the price priority and time priority order, settling exchanges between crypto assets. For example, USDT_BTC refers to the exchange between USDT and BTC.

Limit order: Users set the buying and selling prices. Only when the market price matches your set price, the order will be filled. If the market price does not match the set price, limit orders will keep waiting. Note: When the set buying price is higher than the market price, the limit order will be settled at market price. When the set selling price is lower than the market price, the limit order will be settled at market price.

Iceberg order: Iceberg orders are designed to hide the true volume of large orders. The shown volume that the user sets will be displayed on the order book. Note: The hidden orders of iceberg orders will be filled first. The handling fee for hidden orders is 0.2% of the volume. 3. After canceling the order, funds will be returned to your account. The refund can be confirmed in the balance and transaction history.When the set buying price is higher than the market price, the limit order will be settled at market price.

Why my KYC documents are rejected?

Funds not arriving

There are 3 key steps a blockchain transaction must go through: request - validation - funds arriving

① Request: if your withdrawal status on the platform you withdraw from says "completed" or "succeeded", it means the transaction has been processed by this platform and is sent to blockchain network for validation.

② Validation: It takes time for the blockchain network to validate each transaction. The funds will only be sent to the recipient platform after validation is completed. Please wait patiently.

③ Funds arriving: Only when the number of nodes validating the transaction reaches the threshold, will the funds arrive in the recipient address.

Note:

1.There can be traffic when there are too many transactions to be processed. Traffic prolongs the waiting time for each transaction to complete. Please wait patiently when there is traffic. You can use the TXID to check the status of the transaction.

2.If the transaction has been validated by the network but the funds are still not arriving. Please provide our customer service agents with your Gate.io ID, TXID of the transaction, and screenshots of the transaction on the sender platform to find out about the status of the transaction.

Forgot to fill in a tag or a memo

When withdrawing currencies like XRP and EOS, users must fill in a tag or a memo in addtion to the recipient address. If the tag or memo is blank, the currencies may be withdrawn but will probably not arrive at the recipients address. In this case, you need to submit a ticket to Gate.io with your Gate.io ID, a correct tag or memo, TXID in text format, screenshots of the transaction on the sender plaftform. When the provided information is verified, the funds will be transferred to your Gate.io account.

The deposited currency is not supported by Gate.io

Currently there is no solution for this problem. You can either start a live chat or submit a ticket providing the name of the currency, TXID of the transaction and screenshots of the transaction on the sender platform. We will help you complete the deposit once this currency gets listed on Gate.io. Our tech team will also work on a solution, which can, however, requre a long time of waiting. How to query the withdrawal progress on the blockchain explorer

Open Gate.io website and go to "Coin List" under "More" on the top navigation bar. Search the coin you want to look up. Open its deion page and click on "Blockchain Explorer". Paste the TXID into the top-right search box.

Wrong withdrawal address

① If it is a wrong address that led to the withdrawal failure, the funds will be automatically returned, and the withdrawal record will be tagged as "Cancelled".

② If the withdrawal has been successfully conducted, the funds will be transferred to the recipients wallet. Due to the irreversibility of blockchain transactions, we cannot help you retrieve the funds once the transaction is finished. You need to contact the recipient for negotiation.

Common reasons for withdrawal failures

The following 4 reasons account for most withdrawal failures: ① Wrong address ② Wrong address length ③ User did not fill in a tag or a memo ④ Network delay

How to check: You can view the reason for transaction failure on the transaction detail page. Check if the address is pasted in its entirety if the coin is selected correctly, if there are unwanted symbols or spaces, and if the Mainnet and the Token Contract Address are supported or not.

No KYC ID Verification

In order to comply with the regulations of the cryptocurrency industry, to ensure the safety of users funds, and to reduce risks, money laundering, blackmail and other illegal activities, Gate.io requires all users to complete KYC ID Verification. Only after KYC ID Verification is completed, can certain operations including withdrawal can be carried out.

Recent fiat currency trading or merchant orders in fiat currency trading

① If there are merchant orders in your fiat currency trading, there must be a certain amount of asset margin preserved in your account. Please check if you have merchant orders.

② Currencies bought in fiat currency trading can only be withdrawn 24 hours after the purchase.

Account is under protection

After you make changes to security settings like KYC ID Verification, Google Authenticator, phone number, etc, you cannot withdraw funds within 24 hours after the change. Because your account enters a 24-hour protection period after a security setting is changed. If the protection period exceeds 24 hours, please contact customer service by submitting a ticket or starting a live chat.

Forgot to fill in a tag or a memo

When withdrawing currencies like XRP and EOS, users must fill in a tag or a memo. If the tag or memo is blank, the currencies may be withdrawn but will probably not arrive at the recipients address. In this case, the user must confirm the status of the transaction with the recipient platform.

The withdrawn currency is not supported by the recipient platform

Gate.io only confirms whether the address format is correct but cannot guarantee whether the recipient address supports the withdrawn currency. For solutions, you need to communicate with the recipient platform.

If the recipient platform agrees to return the funds back to your account, you can provide them with your Gate.io deposit code. If they only agree to return the funds to the sender address, in which case the funds cannot be transferred directly to your Gate.io account. Please contact the recipient platform to request the TXID of the transaction. Submit a ticket on Gate.io and share with our agents the TXID, the communication record of you and the recipient platform, your Gate.io account ID and your deposit code. Our agents will help you transfer the funds into your Gate.io account.

How to conduct margin trading

Example:

Lee thinks that the BTC market is looking very bullish in the coming month. In order to obtain higher profits, Lee plans to trade on margin. Lees account has 10,000 USDT and he wants to borrow 10,000 USDT in order to double the return.

First, he transfers 10,000USDT to his margin account as collateral. (Collateral: The funds investors deposit as an agreement to obey the trading rules. Only after the collateral has been transferred to the margin account can investors start borrowing funds.)

Then Lee chooses the loan period and interest rate and he borrows 10,000 USDT, whose repayment is due in 30 days with the daily interest rate being 0.02%. Lee bought 4 BTC at the price of 5000USDT each. 25 days later, the price of BTC rises to 10,000USDT. Lee sold all the BTC and repaid his margin loan in advance. Compared to trading with no leverage, he made an extra profit of 9,950USDT.

Comparing profit

Profit from margin trading: [10,000USDT (initial collateral)+10,000USDT(margin loan)]/5,000USDT(BTC buying price)*10,000USDT(BTC selling price)-10,000USDT(initial collateral)-10,000USDT*(1+0.02%*25)(margin loan interest)=19,950USDT

Profit from trading without leverage: 10,000USDT (margin)/5,000USDT(BTC buying price)*10,000USDT(BTC selling price)-10,000USDT(margin)=10,000USDT

We can tell from the calculation results that trading with leverage made Lee 9,950USDT more profit than without.

Say Lee thinks that the BTC market is looking bearish in the coming month. He transfers 10,000USDT into his margin account when the price for one BTC is 5,000USDT. He borrows 2 BTC and sells them to get 10,000 USDT. 25 days later, the price for one BTC rises to 9,100USDT. Now Lee needs to give out 18,200USDT for 2 BTC to pay off his loan, which means Lees balance reduces from 20,000USDT to 1,800USDT. Lee loses 8,200USDT. At this point, the risk rate of Lees account is lower than 110%. Forced liquidation is triggered to stop further loss.

When Lee gets the loan: Risk rate = 20,000USDT(total balance)/[5,000USDT(BTC buying price)*2(number of BTC borrowed)]*100%=200%

25 days later: 1BTC=9100USDT

Risk rate = 20,000USDT(total balance)/[9100USDT(BTC selling price) *2(number of BTC borrowed)]*100%=109.9%

The lower the risk rate, the higher the risk. When the risk rate falls below 110%, forced liquidation will be triggered.

If the price of BTC goes down as Lee predicts, when the price reaches 2,500USDT, Lee buys 2 BTC to repay the loan. Now Lees net balance is 15,000USDT(interest and handling fees not calculated). The price of BTC halves but Lee makes a profit of 5,000USDT. The reward ratio is 50%, which means you can make huge profits from trading in a bearish market too. Lee comes to the following conclusion: By introducing leverage, spot trading can amplify returns when the market moves in the same direction as the investor predicts. The investor can profit by trading with leverage in a bearish market too. But if the market moves in the opposite direction as the investor predicts, the loss will also be amplified accordingly.

Step 1: Log in to your account. Click on "Margin Trading" under "Trade" on the top navigation bar. You can either choose "standard" or "professional" version. This tutorial uses standard version.

Step 2: Search and enter the pair you want to trade. (GT_USDT as an example here)

Step 3: Click on "Funds transfer" and proceed as follows

① Determine the transfer direction
② Select the coin to be transferred
③ Enter the volume of the transaction
④ Click on "Transfer Now"

Step 4: Click on "Get loan" to borrow GT or USDT. Here you can view the loans of your account.

Step 5: Choose from "buy" and "sell" according to which currency you have borrowed. Set buying/selling prices and buying/selling amount (or exchange total). You can also click on the last prices on the order book to set the buying/selling price conveniently. Then click on "Buy"/"Sell".

How to Conduct Margin Trading on mobile phone【APP】

Step 1: Open Gate.io mobile app and log in to your account. Click on "Exchange" on the bottom navigation bar, then "Leverage".

① Select the pair you want to trade.
② Here shows the leverage ratio of the current trade. Click to manage your margin account.
③ Click to transfer funds, borrow or repay loans.
④ Entrance to the candlestick chart of the chosen pair.

Step 2: Before conducting margin trades, users need to transfer collaterals first:

① Determine the transfer direction.
② Select the coin to be transferred.
③ Enter the volume of the transaction.
④ Click on "Transfer now".

Step 3: Choose from "buy" and "sell" according to which currency you have borrowed. Set buying/selling prices and buying/selling amount. You can also click on the last prices on the order book to set the buying/selling price conveniently. Then click on "Buy"/"Sell".

Step 4: After successfully placing an order, you will be able to view it in "Orders" at the bottom of the page.

Step 4: Click on "Get loan" to borrow loans. Select the currency you want to borrow. Enter the amount. Then confirm borrowing the loan. Click on "see more information on market rates" to view more information on all borrowable currencies.

Step 5: Choose from "buy" and "sell" according to which currency you have borrowed. Set buying/selling prices and buying/selling amount (or exchange total). You can also click on the last prices on the order book to set the buying/selling price conveniently. Then click on "Buy"/"Sell".
